Exam Day Preparation

Simple, practical tips to help you show up ready.

What to Bring

  • Driver's license and any required medical certificates
  • Medication list with dosages
  • Glasses/contacts or hearing aids (if used)
  • CPAP compliance report (if sleep apnea)
  • Diabetes log and recent A1C (if applicable)

Night Before Your Exam

  • Get 7–8 hours of sleep
  • Avoid alcohol and heavy meals
  • Drink water (don't overdo it)
  • Take medications as prescribed

Morning of Your Exam

  • Avoid caffeine  for 2+ hours before BP
  • No nicotine  right before BP if possible
  • Eat a light, low-sugar breakfast
  • Wear loose-fitting clothes (shorts help)

Tips to Lower Blood Pressure

  • Slow breathing  for 60–90 seconds
  • Feet flat, back supported, arm relaxed
  • Rest 5–10 minutes before the reading
  • Use the restroom first
